The Life Sciences manufacturing sector in Massachusetts accounted for 30 percent of all exports in 2007 compared to an average of seven percent in all other states. The continuing growth here of this manufacturing sector has driven our response to provide system solutions and components for the pharmaceutical, medical device, bio-technology, drug-delivery, and diagnostic equipment industry.

We Have Been Getting Ready For
The Life Science Market For 50 Years

An emerging major market for The Hope Group is the so-called Life Sciences market. At The Hope Group, we believe Life Science is a new name for an old market. For example, the "medical products" field had always been a "life science" area; and so had the pharmaceutical industry. But, in years past, each was defined as a market unto itself. Today, the term Life Science incorporates a wide range of markets associated with human, plant, and animal focused products and services and thus we now have the world of "Life Sciences." That said; we see the following: The Life Sciences market includes:

  • Analytical instrumentation
  • Biopharmaceuticals
  • Biotechnology
  • Diagnostics
  • Healthcare (Biomedical)
  • Medical devices
  • Pharmaceuticals

While The Hope Group is widely known for its Hydraulic Power solutions (which it has been building successfully since 1960) it has steadily increased its capacity in the Pneumatic and Electro-pneumatic and Electro-mechanical control system arena too. In partnership with Parker, we have expanded our capabilities for motion control and fluidic system and component solutions in Life Sciences.

Medical Devices for OEM's

As a partner with Parker for 50 years, The Hope Group is well positioned to assist New England-based OEM's with their design and manufacturing requirements. The Medical Systems Division of Parker manufactures various single-use, as well as short & long-term implantable silicone medical devices for cardiovascular, nutrition, orthopedic, respiratory, urological and other general survey OEM's.

With horizontal and vertical molding presses ranging from 28 tons to 50 tons, Parker's Medical Systems Division is capable of medium to high volume injection and insert-molding of precision components from a wide range of thermoplastic engineering materials. Medium to high volume insert and overmolding capabilities exist for: plastic inserts, metal inserts, organic rubber, silicone, and suture thread.

Parker has in-house tooling capabilities to offer biomedical and pharmaceutical OEM's a wide range of single and multi-lumen medical grade tubing as well as extruded profiles. Along with x-ray striped and x-ray opaque extrusion, it specializes in medical grade wire-reinforced, non-occluding silicone tubing used for adult and pediatric catheters.

As a single source FDA registered and ISO 13485 certified finished medical device contract manufacturer, Parker offers single use devices, reusable devices, instrumentation, and invitro diagnostic assembly, testing, packaging and sterilization. Devices in Class I, II and III include critical care, cardiology, operating room, respiratory therapy, emergency room, neurology, oncology, chronic care, sleep labs and audiology.

Innovative products from Parker include its thermoplastic couplings featuring its quick connections with a "click." The easy to use Push-to-Connect design with an audible click upon connection offers users an intuitive push-button latch, which allows quick, sure connections. The design combines the advantages of thermoplastic material with the traditional flow functions found in metal couplings. Thermoplastic couplings are easier to handle due to the lighter weight material. Additionally, plastic allows the coupling to be resistant to many chemicals.

Other products offered to meet the critical medical OEM's requirements are:

  • Cardiovascular catheters
  • Closure seals on plastic devices
  • Diaphragms and bellows
  • Door seals, both small and large
  • Endotracheal catheters
  • Feeding catheters & devices
  • Infusion pump gaskets
  • Multi-port urological catheters
  • Medical grade tubing
  • Nasal airway with single & dual balloons
  • Sanitary gaskets
  • Small container seals
  • Sterilizer gaskets
  • Stoppers for syringes
  • Syringe tips
  • Surgical wound drainage tubes
  • Trachestomy catheters
  • Vial caps
  • Wire-reinforced diagnostic catheter
